A reliable dialysis access built from your own vessels.
An AV fistula is the safest, longest-lasting way to dialyse. We plan it early, create it well, and keep it working.
The procedure, in plain language.
An arteriovenous (AV) fistula is a small surgical connection between an artery and a vein, usually in your forearm. Over a few weeks the vein thickens and enlarges, giving dialysis nurses a strong, natural site to insert needles for every session. Compared to a catheter, a fistula has the lowest infection risk, the best blood flow for dialysis, and the longest working life — often a decade or more when looked after.
Is this the right procedure for you?
- If your kidney function (eGFR) is below 20 and dialysis is likely within a year.
- If you are on a temporary catheter and need a permanent access.
- If your current fistula has failed and you need a new site planned.
- If you are preparing for home hemodialysis and need a reliable access.
- If you are a transplant candidate but want a fistula as a backup bridge.
Our standard, not the industry standard.
Vein mapping first
Ultrasound of both arms identifies the best artery and vein before any surgery is scheduled.
Vascular surgeon, nephrologist plan
The fistula is created by an experienced vascular surgeon working from a nephrologist-led plan, not in isolation.
Maturation surveillance
Weekly checks for the first month — pulse, thrill, ultrasound flow — to catch problems while they are still fixable.
Cannulation training
Your nurses are trained on your specific fistula before first use, so the early needling does not damage it.
From OPD to discharge.
- Nephrologist consult and vein mapping ultrasound at the OPD.
- Pre-op blood work and anaesthesia clearance scheduled within 48 hours.
- Day-care surgery under local anaesthetic, about an hour on the table.
- Discharge the same day with a small dressing and a written arm-care sheet.
- Weekly maturation check for the first month, ultrasound at 6 weeks.
Transparent, written before you commit.

What Is an AV Fistula?
An AV Fistula is a connection made between an artery and a vein, usually in the arm. Once created, the vein becomes stronger and larger, allowing dialysis needles to be inserted safely and efficiently. It is your natural access made from your own blood vessels, without any artificial tube or catheter.
Nephrologist-Led Monitoring
Patient-centered care throughout Your AV fistula is your lifeline, and we protect it with precision, experience, and continuous follow-up.
Questions patients ask before they decide.
Ideally 3-6 months before your first session. That lets it mature properly so you can start dialysis on the fistula directly, without a catheter. If dialysis is urgent, we place a temporary catheter and create the fistula in parallel.
The surgery leaves a small scar; the vein over months becomes more prominent, like a thick rope under the skin. Most patients adjust quickly, and long sleeves cover it easily. The "thrill" you feel is normal — it means the fistula is working.
Heavy lifting on that arm, tight watches or sleeves, blood pressure cuffs and IV lines on the fistula arm, and rough cannulation. We give you a written do/don't list and brief your family doctor.
Don't decide alone. Decide informed.
Whether you are weighing dialysis options, want a second opinion, or are ready to schedule — we'll route you to the right consultant within the day.
