Kidney Biopsy
Precision Diagnosis at RENACARE
A kidney biopsy is a vital diagnostic procedure that helps uncover the root cause of kidney diseases. At RENACARE Kidney Care, we offer both native kidney biopsies and graft (transplant) kidney biopsies, performed under ultrasound guidance by experienced nephrologists using state-of-the-art techniques.
If you're experiencing unexplained kidney issues or if your transplant kidney is showing signs of dysfunction, a biopsy can provide the answers — safely, quickly, and accurately.
What is a Kidney Biopsy?
A kidney biopsy involves removing a small tissue sample from the kidney using a thin needle. The sample is then analysed under a microscope to diagnose the exact nature and severity of kidney disease.
Types of Kidney Biopsies We Offer:
Native Kidney Biopsy
Used for patients with their original (non-transplanted) kidneys.
Common indications:
Unexplained proteinuria or hematuria
Acute or chronic kidney failure
Suspected glomerulonephritis or nephrotic syndrome
Graft (Transplant) Kidney Biopsy
Used for kidney transplant recipients to detect:
Early signs of rejection
Drug toxicity
Recurrent or new kidney disease
Unexplained graft dysfunction
How the Procedure Works:
Done under ultrasound or CT guidance for maximum accuracy
Local anaesthetics are used; typically, no general anaesthesia is required
Usually takes 20–30 minutes
Patient observed for a few hours post-procedure; often same-day discharge
